Caring For Baby Dolphins

Reproducing and raising their young is a natural physiological activity and a key component of dolphin social behavior. Additionally, what we are able to learn from our healthy dolphins and their calves directly informs the conservation and preservation of their wild counterparts.

Through a groundbreaking initiative pioneered by Dolphin Quest called Project Newborn, we can gather important baseline information about dolphins in their early stages of life. Knowing these healthy parameters is essential to dolphin health assessments in professional human care and in the wild.

This video shows Dolphin Quest Bermuda’s youngest dolphin, Reef, participating in a Project Newborn session alongside mother Bailey and our Marine Mammal Specialists.

For more information about Dolphin Quest’s ‘swim with the dolphins’ programs in Bermuda, on Hawaii’s Big Island and on Oahu, be sure to follow us! We share updates on our dolphin family, new dolphin experiences, groundbreaking dolphin and whale science, community outreach and opportunities to support wild dolphin conservation.
