Do you have a cat at home and are thinking about adding another friend to your house? That sounds like fun. But, you want to make sure that you get the right one. If you’re thinking about getting another cat, talk to your veterinarian about what is going to match your cats personality. But if you’re thinking about getting another species, such as a dog, or a bird, a hamster, or a guinea pig, you really want to think that one through. Because remember, cats are predators.
Out in the wild they actually decimate wild bird population, so it’s probably not the safest thing to get a bird as an additional pet. In addition, if you have small prey items such as hamsters or guinea pigs, they may get targeted by a perfectly happy, non aggressive cat with normal predatory behavior.
Dogs and cats can get along, but you have to keep in mind that dogs can have a lot of energy, and they don’t follow cats social signals. So, if you do get a dog or a puppy, you’re going to need to make sure that the cat has her own time to herself and plenty of time with you, without getting interrupted by the dog. And that’s how you get started thinking about what pets you want at home with your cat.
