Have you ever wondered why cats purr? You’re not alone. It’s a really common question that people ask me. The funny thing is that while most people think that cat’s purr just because they’re comfortable or happy or friendly or in love with you, some cats actually purr when they’re uncomfortable as well. In fact, veterinarians all over the country know that patients are often purring when they come into the office. And we’re pretty certain that they’re not interested in seeing us.
Sometimes veterinarians even have to take special measures to stop cats from purring so that we can actually properly hear their heart and lungs. One thing that we do to do that, is to turn on the water faucet. Since for some reason, this stops cat’s purring in many cases. It’s important to keep in mind that if your cat is purring when you touch him, he’s probably a pretty happy camper, for the most part. But if you notice that your cat is isolating himself or showing any behaviors of illness, he might actually be under the weather even if he’s purring. So don’t let that critical sign fool you into thinking he’s totally fine.
And that’s some information on cats purring.
