What’s this video all about?
In this video I make a comprehensive introduction to the Sphynx Cat breed, previously called Canadian Hairless. Not a lot of people know about them. For those who do, they are either seen as ugly or as gorgeous.
As far as their personality is involved, many people think they are mean cats. However, this cannot be more false!
In this video, I talk about their fascinating history, followed by their unique appearance, personality, health issues and price.
I discuss about if they’re suited for young kids or older children, about how they get along with other cats and dogs.
I also discuss their special needs. They can also have health issues and have a lower life expectancy than other cats, which are things you need to consider before getting one.
Also, their price is not to be neglected! They are pretty expensive cats.
Overall, they are not suited for everyone, but after watching this video, you’ll know if you should get a Sphynx Cat or not.

– Stress in multi-cat households is really common
– Other things such as pain can cause similar problems and any cat with a change in behaviour should be checked to ensure nothing else is wrong + to get specific recommendations tailored for your cat specifically from your vet.

Take steps to reduce the causes of stress rather than just medicate
– 1 more food/water/litter tray than number of cats
– Have escape routes rather than shut in same room
– Safe spaces to hide – cats like height
– Medications

Some people swear by rescue remedy and typically give a drop or two several times a day. I used to believe that rescue remedy could be classed as a herbal supplement but have recently been looking into it in more detail:
– First produced in the 1930’s by Edward Bach who was an English homeopath. When he was feeling a certain emotion he held his hand over different plants and the one that made him feel better he ascribed the healing power to cure that negative emotion.
– He collected dew from the plant. Feeling that the plant would have transferred it’s healing energy to the water. This was then mixed with the same amount of brandy to produce the mother tincture before being further diluted in alcohol to produce the final therapeutic product
– It is not produced in the same way as homeopathic remedies in that the dilution is not so great and there is not concussion step to transfer energy, however is shares much of the same underlying philosophy
– If enough dew can’t be collected then the initial water can be collected by soaking the flowers in water while allowing the sun’s rays to pass through them, or if this is not possible the water can be boiled.

There is no evidence rescue remedy has any effect and given the way it is produced and similarity to the principles of homeopathy it is now something I would no longer recommend.

– Proper pharmaceuticals such as clomipramine

If you’re thinking about getting a cat or have one already and are worried about urine marking or urine spraying, you’re not alone. Urine marking and urinating outside of the box is one of the major causes of cat owners being really distressed in their relationship with their cats. The problem is it’s actually a really normal behavior. A lot of times people think that a cat is urine marking or spraying outside of the box because they’re angry or spiteful or upset that the family went on vacation, but the reality of it is, is that spraying is a normal behavior in 10% of male neutered cats and 5% of spayed female cats.

So, if you neuter or spay your cat, you’re going to decrease your chances of urine markings, but if you already have a urine marker the most important things you can do are make sure that that litter box is in an appropriate place and sparkling clean. Also, look for stressors that might be making your cat anxious. Anxious cats are more likely to urine mark. Common causes are aggression or social stress with other cats, other animals in the household or people. They also get stressed when there are visitors or if there’s changes in the environment such as a remodeling and certainly moving.

Some cats will even urine mark if you’ve been gone from the home for awhile. If any of those are causing your cats to urine mark then you should definitely speak with your veterinarian because after a medical workup assuming that everything is fine then there are definitely other behavioral modifications you can make besides the litter box and even medications that have really great responses while helping our cats enjoy life in general and keeping your house sparkling clean. That’s how you get started working with a spraying cat.
