If you discover live ticks on your pet, a flea bath is a popular and very effective treatment option for getting rid of ticks fast. Tick baths use a special shampoo formulated to kill live ticks immediately on contact. … Some ticks may die from the shampoo while still attached to your animal.
Give Your Pet a Tick Bath
A flea and tick bath with medicated shampoo will offer an immediate kill of the ticks that are on the animal. Be sure to read the label of the shampoo as many products have species or age restrictions, and therefore might not be suitable for your pet.
The downside to using a flea and tick medicated bath is that most animals hate bathing and can become stressed. It is important to note that flea and tick baths only kill the ticks that are on the animal at the time of the bath. Most shampoos do not prevent further infestations.
Although it’s tempting if you find a tick on you to try and immediately pull it off with your fingers, this is in fact the wrong thing to do. If you try to do this the tick’s body is likely to separate from its head, leaving the mouthparts still embedded in your skin. This obviously is unpleasant and can facilitate the spread of tick borne diseases.
Removing ticks is simple, but must be done properly to avoid spreading
any possible diseaseses. To safely remove ticks, take a pair of
forceps and squeeze the tick by the head (not the body), and pull upward in a slow and steady motion.
The best method for removing a tick is to get a pair of tweezers and gently pull the tick starting from the head and lifting it straight out as seen in the images below.
