Full title | Carolina Bertolaso: The cost of caring: compassion fatigue within animal protection organizations
Compassion fatigue is a common occupational hazard among professionals in the helping field, and activists and workers in the animal protection sector are also at high risk of being affected. If not properly addressed, this condition can cause a tremendous amount of individual suffering, decrease job motivation, contribute to the development of a toxic workplace and become a serious organizational burden. In this talk, I will expose the clinical symptoms of compassion fatigue. Professional activists and their managers will learn to assess the existence of this psychological condition within themselves and their teams and will be given tools to cope with it and increase happiness and self-care in their organizations.
